Less female you could find working in a Hardware company than Software. Sometimes, I still wonder why.

We have fewer female studies in Engineering. We even have fewer female work in hardware after graduation. I still remember that I was the only female working in our research and development department for memory devices. And, I still remember that I was the only female who knew how to write assembly in the company.

A few years before, while I was being invited as a speaker for BNK, I met a few great females who were before us to fight and work on what they love to. Even though I was at the same stage with them to give talks, after I heard their stories, I know that they are the ones that I am admired to and hard to achieve as what they are.

In the software company, you could see many women working with. However, most of them are not in the C position. The reason is that while the company thinks about promotion, they always give males first. While I dug out more, I found that is based on society and family training while we were young. Most males we are asking to be a leader, to be brave, to be curious, and to be a risk. However, we are asking females to be nice, to be careful, to be silent, and to be a follower.

There were many studies that showed that we all have the characters no matter gender while we were young. However, the stories that we read; the lessons from history are all teaching us that the gender difference and how to bias.

Therefore, there are many women not only in the IT field but also start-up is fighting for what they dream about and love. I have heard stories that females start a start-up due to their skills yet hard to find jobs. Or, the working environment is not traded with them nicely or fairly. Therefore, they tried to create their own companies and hope to have a friendly working environment for females. I hope every one of them could succeed.
